 MATERA: THE TOWN OF “SASSI”, HUMAN WORLD HERITAGE
Matera is one of the most ancient town in the world, whose territory keeps prooves of human settlements from the palaeolithic age until today without any stop. This town represents a wonderful page written by men through more than 10.000 years of history.
The original urban core of Matera is represented by the “Sassi”. It developed from natural caves digged into rock and later modelled in more and more complicated structures inside the two big natural amphitheatres represented by “Sasso Caveoso” and “Sasso Barisano”.
